Auckland Stadiums

World-class venues for sport, concerts, and entertainment

Mt Smart Stadium

Mt Smart Stadium, situated in Penrose at the base of Rarotonga / Mt Smart, is Auckland's premier outdoor stadium with a capacity of up to 30,000 for concerts and major events. As the home ground of the New Zealand Warriors rugby league team, the stadium hosts NRL matches throughout the season, drawing passionate crowds from across the Auckland region. The venue has also staged international rugby league and rugby union test matches, FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and major athletic events.

Beyond sport, Mt Smart Stadium is one of Auckland's most sought-after concert venues. International touring acts including Elton John, Ed Sheeran, Eminem, and Guns N' Roses have performed at the stadium, taking advantage of its excellent acoustics and central Auckland location. Regional Facilities Auckland continues to invest in stadium upgrades to ensure modern amenities, improved accessibility, and enhanced spectator experiences.

Western Springs Stadium

Western Springs Stadium, nestled beside the Western Springs parkland and Auckland Zoo, is a natural amphitheatre that has been a cornerstone of Auckland's live entertainment scene since the 1970s. With a capacity of approximately 45,000, the open-air venue has hosted some of the largest concerts in New Zealand history, from AC/DC and David Bowie to Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Rolling Stones. Its grass-bowl design and lakeside setting create an atmosphere unmatched by any other venue in the country.

The stadium also serves as the home of Western Springs Speedway, one of the most historic motorsport venues in the Southern Hemisphere. The speedway season runs from November through April, featuring sprint cars, stock cars, midgets, and TQ racing under floodlights. Regional Facilities Auckland manages the venue to balance its dual role as both a motorsport circuit and a major concert destination, ensuring the venue remains a versatile asset for Auckland's entertainment landscape.

Community & Events

Auckland's stadiums are more than just large-event venues. They host community sports days, school athletics championships, cultural festivals, charity runs, and corporate events throughout the year. Regional Facilities Auckland works closely with event promoters, sports bodies, and community organisations to ensure these world-class facilities are accessible and well-maintained for all Aucklanders. From grassroots sport to global spectacles, Auckland's stadiums are integral to the city's identity as a vibrant, active, and event-rich metropolis.
